New Year Resolutions in the Work Place in 2024

Some of you are pro-NY resolutions. And some of you aren't. I get it. But ‘tis the season, so let’s talk about some resolutions you may want to make in your workplace for 2024.

1. This is going to sound soft but hang with me. We'll want to focus on self-compassion. What do I mean by this? This is the year for you to become a better partner, parent, community member. And by doing so, this means you no longer can work 24/7. By drawing boundaries for yourself in this area, you'll be modeling good, balanced behavior for your team. They want it. They need it. Set the example. What are some practical ways to do this? Set ‘no meeting’ days to show you want them to have the space to do their work. Focus on practicing what you preach.

2. Make sure they know their work matters. If a person has purpose in their work, their level of fulfillment goes up as well as their productivity. When a manager can successfully explain to their employees why their work matters, it can help reduce employee intention to leave their employer by up to 50% (according to a recent meQuilibrium report). You can't assume they get it like you do. You're the leader. Help them see why what they do matters so much (and why you appreciate it). It's worth the time, I promise.

3. Make your organization a safe and healthy place to work. I would make 2024 the year you work on building trust in your workplace. You can do this by increasing communication, increasing transparency and increasing employee development efforts. Something as simple as a regular check-in grows trust and relationship. Don't have the time? You'll probably lose an employee over not prioritizing them or you're losing productivity from them because clarity is lost. Make the time.

4. Don't shy away from AI. It's here. And it's helpful. If you haven't played around with it - I highly recommend. It can help you with repetitive tasks, communications, and can even help you dream bigger. I personally use it every single day in my business.

5. Make this the year you get intentional about employee engagement. Do a survey. Analyze the results. Make a plan. It's really that simple. There isn't such a thing as over-communication.

If you want some or all of the above but can't squeeze out the capacity to make it happen, that's what we are here for. Partnering with Salt & Light might be your best resolution yet. Here's to an amazing new year.
